An optical fruit and vegetable sorting machine using the highest resolution cameras to check whole or cut agro-food products. Discovery analyses 100% of the surface and the body of each product, detecting imperfections right through to the core or each individual item. It sorts both fresh and dried produce.
Discovery is an octa-chromatic machine equipped with NIR (Near InfraRed) technology for Visible Color analysis, Chlorophyll analysis, Translucency analysis and Shape analysis. NIR detects imperfections inside the produce, whilst Visible Color detects colour defects on the outside, such as yellowing, damage, etc. Chlorophyll analysis provides deep accurate detection in chlorophyll-high produce such as lettuce, peas and green beans. Translucency analysis enables detection of stones in dehydrated fruit and contaminants on the belt side of the produce. Shape analysis detects small pieces of fruit or vegetable and removes them. The machines have an ethernet connection for remote control and delivers statistical data on rejected produce, providing insight into the quality of the batch.
The machine feeds produce onto a conveyor belt designed to stabilise each item as it travels through both the vision and reject zones. Discovery is equipped with an air reject system with 288 electrically controlled ejection valves. Ejection can be a single grading system or, in 3Way mode, can differentiate between pure waste and second grade produce.
